Acclaimed Grammy winning pianist, Jeffrey Biegel returns to Central Florida to perform two works with your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. Biegel will perform Spiritualist, a concerto in three movements by SCSO favorite collaborator -- and recent Grammy winner, Kenneth Fuchs. Each movement of the memorable concerto was inspired by an abstract painting by American artist, Helen Frankenthaler. Biegel will also dazzle audiences with a performance of George Gershwin’s unforgettable and incredibly popular, Rhapsody in Blue, brimming with youthful energy, beautiful graceful melodies, captivating rhythms, originality, and a sense of musical exploration. Published in 2018, the new critical edition of Rhapsody in Blue prepared by Ryan Raul Bañagale restores not only Grofé’s original jazz band orchestration, but also various cuts and alterations Gershwin made to the piano solo part in later years. This edition will serve as the basis for the Space Coast Symphony's upcoming performances and is perhaps the closest we will come to what audiences actually heard that snowy afternoon in 1924. The concert will be rounded out with the longest crescendo in the repertoire, Ravel’s magnificent Boléro. It begins at pianissimo and builds up to such astonishing intensity that it brings audiences to their feet every time!
